JOIN US!

Be The Ones along with College of Charleston Civility Initiative, Center for Civic Engagement, Honors College and local community partners invite you to join us on Tuesday, September 24th for a pre-release screening of the documentary, Banned Together, followed by a short conversation with members featured in the film, students & local community members.

This event is free to attend and will also include free food & snacks, prizes and giveaways, and activities.

Banned Together is a powerful documentary telling the story of three fierce Beaufort, SC teens who took on a fight bigger than themselves. With their senior year in jeopardy, these students faced down opposition from their own community, battling to bring back banned books and protect the right to read.

Banned Together doesn't just expose the alarming rise of book bans and curriculum censorship—it reveals the human side of activism. These young individuals transformed from local defenders of their school library to national advocates, speaking out on the steps of the Right to Read Rally and challenging the political forces trying to control what is learned and read.

This is more than just a film—it’s a chance to engage with a movement that affects us all. Join us in exploring the critical issues shaping the future of public education, and meet the brave students who are standing up to make sure every voice is heard.

We’ll be sharing more information on special guests, event speakers and participants in the coming days.
